A Successful AHU Relocation Project

This month, we had the opportunity to work on a particularly challenging yet rewarding task: the relocation of an Air Handling Unit (AHU) for one of our clients.
While an AHU relocation might seem like a simple task on the surface, this project presented a unique set of challenges that demanded careful planning, precision, and a touch of innovation.
Initially, the AHU was located inside the building. However, due to evolving operational needs, the client required the AHU to be moved outdoors to better serve another area. Moving an AHU isn’t as simple as picking it up and shifting it to a new spot. These units are highly specialised and complex, requiring careful handling and expertise to dismantle, move, and reassemble in a new location.
Our first step was to assess the situation and create a comprehensive plan for the entire relocation process. The unit needed to be carefully dismantled to ensure that no components were damaged during the move. Each part of the unit was labelled to guarantee it could be reassembled correctly and efficiently in the new outdoor location.
Innovative solutions for outdoor placement
One of the key aspects of this project was the need to ensure that the AHU would continue to function optimally once relocated outdoors. To address this, our team designed and constructed a custom shelter for the unit. This shelter not only provided protection from rain, wind, and extreme temperatures but also included carefully placed vents and grills to ensure optimal airflow for the AHU’s performance.
This custom design was crucial in maintaining the longevity and functionality of the unit. Our team worked diligently to ensure the shelter was built with high-quality materials that would withstand the elements, providing a long-lasting solution for our client.
Once the AHU was reassembled in its new location and sheltered from the weather, the next step was to ensure the system’s efficiency was not compromised. This is where our expertise in ductwork and insulation came into play. We installed extensive ducting and insulation around the unit to guarantee optimal airflow and prevent heat loss.
